A vignette is a grouping or a collection of items placed on shelves, table tops, mantles , etc. They help make a space feel warm, welcoming and festive.  While you can create vignettes as part of your regular decor, I like to create them around seasons and celebrations.

I start with items I already have like linens, plants, mirrors, craft paper, ribbon and then add decorative and seasonal items to create a unique and celebratory space.

For example, I have a small, metal shelf in my powder room. I have a few items that I keep on there all of the time, but as you can see, it is usually rather plain. However, just by adding a few items – many from around the house like ribbon, candles, towels, plate, paper, etc. – and a few decorator items like a small scarecrow, a metal leaf and an antique tin, the shelf takes on a new life and fills the space with a feeling of fall.

The beauty of vignettes is that they are small, focused and don’t require an enormous amount of time and effort for a big impact. You may not be able to decorate your whole house for each season or holiday, but by focusing on a few spaces, your home can feel festive and ready for any occasion.

Have you created vignettes? If so, I would love to hear from you!
