Pattie Sobczak

Hi! My name is Pattie Sobczak and I want to welcome you to Celebrate Now! I have been baking and creating since I was a little girl. One of my biggest influences is my mother, Donna. She is a scrapbooker, artist and a seamstress. When I was young she made me and my two sisters matching dresses with our names stitched on them. We were quite the rage when we went out as a family at church and during the holidays! While I did not inherit my mom’s ability to draw, I did get her crafting and sewing genes and started making all kinds of  things. In fact, I can’t remember a time that I was not making things – painting rocks as a child, making potato stamped greeting cards as a teenager,  making custom clothes and pillows to work my way through college and baking sweets for my friends and family.

I have also spent many years in the kitchen learning to cook unique dishes but mostly baking beautiful and tasty treats. My younger sister, Peggy, has been the biggest baking inspiration to me. She has worked most of her life in the food services field and has shared her secrets for creating scrumptious and eye-pleasing sweets. Together we have made baked goods for weddings, parties and special events including children’s birthday parties, and wedding and baby showers.

I also enjoy teaching others to create beautiful things. I remember one Christmas where my daughter Jessica and I made a wreath of old fabric scraps. She was so thrilled with the result that she invited her friends over and taught them how to make wreaths for their homes. It was a very heartwarming experience that made me realize how important it is to share creative ideas and let others shine in their accomplishments.

I am most passionate about finding ways to give old and used items a second life. I love using antique fabrics for pillows, curtains and wreaths; making quilts from fabric scraps, old t-shirts and ties; using vintage handkerchiefs for garlands or window valances; and re-purposing rusty metal pieces, old board game pieces, upholstery fabric, wall paper samples, vintage ribbon, used greeting cards and maps, used ornaments, sheet music, paper scraps, antique buttons and jewelry and old Christmas lights to create unique garlands to light up and personalize spaces.

My lifetime pursuit of making beautiful things has helped me realize the importance of not waiting for special events to celebrate the people and events in our lives. Every day can be a celebration where you can appreciate someone special with the gift of Olive Oil Pistachio, Lemon, Spiced or Chocolate Hazelnut Biscotti, Cranberry Apple Pecan or Peach Ginger Hand Pies or Brownie Brittle or any other of the luscious treats that are available. For something more lasting, you can choose to give them a one-of-a-kind garland made from vintage items to celebrate the month, the season or a special event like a new baby, a birthday, or wedding. No two garlands are alike so these will become keepsakes that can be used year after year.

Celebrate Now provides not only the chance to purchase baked goods and decorator items for everyday events, but also the chance to learn to create them. I want to share what I have learned as an inspiration to others.
